Frequently Asked Questions
We made up these questions because we couldn't find space for this information on the homepage. But you probably want to know the answers to most of these things anyways.
What days are the pub crawls?
Fridays and Saturdays. Why? Because they're Nagoya's most active nights.
Is there an age restriction?
The legal drinking (and smoking) age in Japan is 20. So...That, as a minimum. There's no maximum age limit but if you're like, 70, I would proceed with caution.
How much should I budget?
That depends on you, but:
The bars we go don't have a cover charge – and if they do, it's really small and includes a drink. Shiiiiiit, we'll even cover it for you.
You get 4 free shots and a free beer.
Most large alcoholic drinks are between 700 – 1000 yen.
We'll finish things off with a club (optional), and this is where things can get pricey. Minimum 3000 yen entry, usually with two drinks included – paid directly to the club. We're not involved here, but we'll take you to the best place based on the collective interest.
How much will I spend on the night?
We'd say plan for 6000 – 7000 yen to be safe. That includes all your drinks for the night and club entry at the end if you want to go.
Can I go two nights in a row?
Yes, and you can do the second night for 50% off. And you'll get all the same benefits as the first night. And if we like you, we might give you extra shots too.
Do I need to know Japanese?
Not at all, but if you do speak a little bit, it opens up a lot of opportunities to meet people and take the night an extra step further.
How long is the crawl?
3 – 4 hours long, and then there's the option to go to a club afterwards. If you go to the club, you can expect to be out until 4 – 6am.
Is it okay to drink in public in Japan?
Absolutely, and it's completely socially acceptable too, so you don't need to feel self-conscious when you pound back a beer on the main road. We'll be doing our fair share of public drinking between each bar. Or not, whatever. It's a free country.
Is there a minimum order at each place we go?
1 drink per location. That's not our rule, that's just Japan's rule – we don't get commission from the bars (swear), but Japanese establishments don't usually let people stay unless they're customers...Pretty normal globally.
Can we bring our own drinks with?
Go for it. Fill your backpack with beers. We'll make some convenience store stops along the way too so you can top up if needed. Just double-check rule 9 and know your limits – if we're going to 4-6 bars, you're committing to 4-6 drinks, plus some free drinks are provided on the crawl. So, really, you shouldn't need to bring your own drinks but hey, again, it's a free country.
Will you be responsible for my health and safety?
...Do we sound like nurses or paramedics? Look, we'll help you out as best we can if you find yourself in a spot of trouble, but legally, technically, practically and respectfully, it's up to you (and your friends) to take care of yourself (and each other).
